This collection of poetry celebrates the life of the Jesuit missionary Eusebio Kino, who arrived in New Spain in 1681 and who founded the San Xavier del Bac Mission near Tucson. The poet tells Father Kino’s story from his own perspective from his beginnings in Italy (1645) until his death in 1711. The collection is a bilingual edition with facing-page Spanish translation of the original English poems.

JANE CANDIA COLEMAN is the recipient of three Western Heritage Awards from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum for two collections of her poetry, No Roof But Sky and The Red Drum (High Plains Press), and a collection of short fiction, Stories from Mesa Country (Ohio University Press). Her work has received two Spur Awards from Western Writers of America. Her memoir, Mountain Time, was a finalist for the Willa Award from Women Writing the West, as was her historical novel, Matchless. Tombstone Travesty received the Willa Award for best historical novel in 2004.

A five-time Pulitzer nominee, Coleman lives and writes in Tucson, Arizona, where the “White Dove of the Desert,” the San Xavier del Bac Mission, is located.
